There is a large herd of miniature horses in Uniontown, Kansas in desperate need of help. Chances Miniature Horse Rescue have been working with local authorities, and many members of the Lil' Beginnings Miniature Horse Forum community have been writing and calling public authorities of Kansas as well as news stations in an attempt to get these animals the assistance they desperately need. Unfortunately, at a visit to the farm this weekend by members of CMHR, it was found that these animals continue to be in desperate need. Conditions at the farm have not been improved as was reported by the local sheriff! Click MORE to the right of this sentence to see a video of these horses at the bottom....

The sheriff on this case is Harold D. Coleman. He assured out of state volunteers with CMHR that conditions at the farm were improving and that he was seeing to it. Many of the photos of the farm shown in the above you tube links were taken by CMHR volunteers THIS weekend, weeks AFTER this promise was made. The only food in sight, which was available to only some of the minis on this farm, was moldy blackened hay. And there was NO WATER.

I think what the authorities are failing to do is to realize that EVERY MINUTE of EVERY DAY is agony for these animals and they deserve IMMEDIATE relief, not gradual or eventual. If these were PEOPLE, would the care be any different? One would hope so.

Started 6 of the stallions on conditioning and training. Shadow, Marley, Prince, Eddie, Jake & Buster. I have started them on beet pulp mixed in with their feed as well as reduced their intake of hay, hoping to reduce those pot bellies! Also adding a multiple supplement for coat and hooves and general vitamins/minerals.

Have started teaching them voice command of walk, trot and whoa as well as working them on a lunge line and walking, trotting beside me and then making them whoa and stand for a few minutes.... each day I make them stand just a little longer. Also working on teaching them to stand while tied... thats a hard one for Eddie and Jake as they both know how to untie themslves and walk off! They don't try to get away or anything, in fact, if I tie them while cleaning their stall I'll turn around, and there they'll be.

I have been working/conditioning them for about a week and half now I'd say and all are coming along pretty good. So maybe I can do this myself and actually show them myself as well. Next week will begin working on setting them up in a square stance.

Well, there were only about 50 horses or so. I did learn some things to do as well as what not to do. Got ideas from other breeders, trainers and such. Which is all good as it gives me some ideas to go on about training and actually showing as well as what is expected from the judges point of view...... so... it was worth the trip, although I can't say it was worth the money. The horse show was no charge as part of the mid south fair, but between parking ($7.00) Fair entrance ($5.00) Breakfast (8.00) Lunch ($10.00) and drinks in between (3 drinks @3.00 a piece totaling $9.00) A Rootbeer Float ($5.00... no kidding either!!) T-shirt I didn't need but had to have ($20.00) all totaling ($64.00) How UTTERLY outrageous! The only thing worth the price was the T-shirt. Other than the cost of food and drinks, I enjoyed myself.

Heading off to the Miniature Horse show here in Memphis at the Fairgrounds. This is generally a small show from what I understand. I have only been once. Going today to see how things are done. And of course to see all the gorgeous Minis! I am going to take my camera and maybe get some good shots of some of the horses, hopefully folks won't mind if I take photos of their horses. Surely not.

We had to take Hocus to the vet, our trailer was not pullable. He had cut his eyelid pretty bad and time is of the essence to get it sewed back on, so you do what you gotta do...

Great online user driven pedigree database, some even include photos of the horses. Best of all, it's free! All Breed Pedigree.You can submit your own horses as well as pictures. However, in order to upload photos to their website you must join, for a fee, OR you can put your photos online somewhere like Photobucket (which is free) and use the web address for the photo. Check it out!
